Our tools add insights to data and help people apply science to real-world problems. Our expertise and skills in publishing help put <strong>knowledge into context<\/strong> and put it into the hands of those who need it most. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/stories-of-impact\/banana-project-helps-farmers-in-tanzania-and-uganda-reap-64-increase-in-yields\/\">project<\/a> supported by CABI in Tanzania and Uganda aimed to improve banana farming practices by commissioning farmer intermediaries to share banana farming information with thousands of smallholders. The project reached 47,650 farmers, and the farmers who participated <strong>increased their yields by 64%<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>worth an extra US$8.15m annually<\/strong> in total.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/what-we-do\/digital-development\/\"  target=\"_self\" itemprop=\"url\">\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC09062-2.jpg\" alt=\"Filed work on region of...\" itemprop=\"image\" title=\"Filed work on region of...\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n<h2>\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/what-we-do\/digital-development\/\" title=\"Digital development\"  target=\"_blank\"  rel=\"noopener\">\n\t\tDigital development\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>We use technology to enhance and make more accessible knowledge that already exists. For example, we <strong>enhanced chat groups<\/strong> used by plant doctors when providing advice to farmers at plant clinics. We used <strong>chatbot technology<\/strong> and <strong>artificial intelligence-driven computer vision<\/strong> to enable plant doctors to directly connect with the CABI diagnosis team so they can receive timely expert assistance when they need it. The technology also guides the plant doctors to provide better images of the crop problems they are seeing, making the process more efficient.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/projects\/enabling-fair-data-sharing-and-responsible-data-use\/\"  target=\"_self\" itemprop=\"url\">\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/iStock-687312558-1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Hand holding fertile soil\" itemprop=\"image\" title=\"Hand holding fertile soil, Garlic garden\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n<h2>\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/projects\/enabling-fair-data-sharing-and-responsible-data-use\/\" title=\"FAIR data\"  target=\"_self\">\n\t\tFAIR data\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>CABI works to make data and evidence that already exists more <strong>findable by,<\/strong> and <strong>accessible to<\/strong>, different stakeholders. In Ethiopia, it was found that data in the National Soil Information System was not easily available to all the key stakeholders who needed it, including the Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture, in part due to the lack of a national data sharing policy. CABI facilitated the co-creation of a data policy based on the <strong>FAIR data principles<\/strong>, as well as <strong>implementation plans<\/strong>. These have now been approved by the Government of Ethiopia.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scidev.net\/global\/\"  target=\"_self\" itemprop=\"url\">\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/SciDev-ISNTD2.jpg\" alt=\"SciDev-ISNTD2.jpg\" itemprop=\"image\" title=\"SciDev-ISNTD2.jpg\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n<h2>\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scidev.net\/global\/\" title=\"SciDev.Net\"  target=\"_self\">\n\t\tSciDev.Net\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scidev.net\/global\/\"><em>SciDev.Net<\/em><\/a>\u00a0reports frequently on trigger stories in\u00a0<strong>prominent mainstream media outlets<\/strong>. For example, when a<em>\u00a0SciDev.Net\u00a0<\/em>article on the unequal burden borne by women during the COVID-19 pandemic was shared in a tweet by Melinda Gates it was then retweeted by representatives from global health institutions, such as the United Nations Population Fund, CARE and Jhpiego.\u00a0<em>SciDev.Net\u00a0<\/em>responded by convening a follow-up debate on the subject, attended by academics, representatives from non-profits, and those with policy roles. A follow-up article found that various countries that had never reported sex-disaggregated data before had recently started to do so.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/projects\/juno-transforming-evidence-for-agriculture-food-and-climate\/\"  target=\"_self\" itemprop=\"url\">\n\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/iStock-1199675310-1-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"iStock-1199675310\" itemprop=\"image\" title=\"iStock-1199675310\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\"  \/>\n\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n<h2>\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/projects\/juno-transforming-evidence-for-agriculture-food-and-climate\/\" title=\"Juno\"  target=\"_self\">\n\t\tJuno\n\t\t<\/a>\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>Researchers need the know-how and tools to develop rapid evidence synthesis at short notice, and coordinated networks need to be able to translate, communicate, and share evidence at a moment&#8217;s notice so that policymakers can use that evidence. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabi.org\/projects\/juno-transforming-evidence-for-agriculture-food-and-climate\/\">Juno Evidence Alliance<\/a> is a global platform working to ensure better evidence drives better decisions across agriculture and food systems.
