CABI’s main points of contact with its members are through Liaison Officers based in-country and Executive Council members in London or in-country.

The overall governance of CABI comes from the Review Conference of member countries, which reviews CABI’s work programmes and determines its broad policies and strategies. Review Conferences are held every two to three years, bringing together Liaison Officers and Executive Council members.

The Executive Council approves CABI’s annual accounts and budgets, the admission of new members and key policy decisions. Executive Council usually meets once a year with additional postal or e-mail communications as necessary to monitor CABI’s affairs and implement Review Conference resolutions.

The role of the Liaison Officer

The key role of the CABI Liaison Officer is to facilitate a positive and productive working relationship for the mutual benefit of both CABI and the Member Country. The role of a Liaison Officer is therefore vital to the success of CABI in helping us to address your country’s needs and priorities. To help us respond to these needs we encourage regular communication between Liaison Officers and our regional centres; and we welcome your contribution to the development of CABI’s strategy and activities.

Liaison Officers work together with Executive Council members as the focal point for information between CABI and your Government departments and institutions, and to encourage prompt payment of CABI membership fees.

As the main membership contact, you can enjoy personal discounts on CABI Books, Compendia and Databases, as well as the discounts and benefits for your government department and nominated university.

The role of the Executive Council Member

The Executive Council approves CABI’s annual accounts and budgets, the admission of new members and key policy decisions. Executive Council usually meets once a year with additional postal or e-mail communications as necessary to monitor CABI’s affairs and implement Review Conference resolutions.

The Executive Council member plays a key role in CABI through the regular Executive Council meetings held in London. Here CABI’s accounts are signed off and the budget approved. As the membership contact in the UK we hope you are able to encourage any action required by your Liaison Officer on important information, including papers that require policy decisions. Your main CABI contact is Director, Memberships.
