It is one of the world&#8217;s largest Genetic Resource Collections and holds the UK&#8217;s National Collection of Fungus Cultures, which most notably includes Fleming&#8217;s penicillin-producing isolate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our collection allows customers to carry our taxonomic and molecular studies, assays, testing, research and teaching. Terms can also be arranged for cultures used in commercial products. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/form.jotform.com\/232901487583059\">Browse our online catalogue and place an order <\/a> (<em>Please note, you will be redirected to a JotForm)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Organisms available<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Filamentous fungi and yeasts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plant pathogenic bacteria<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Biocontrol agents belonging to these groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Production strains for enzymes, metabolites, active biomolecules and novel products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Authenticated reference, type and test strains for businesses and research establishments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quality assurance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The culture collection is a member of the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ukbrcn.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">United Kingdom Biological Resource Centre Network (UKBRCN)<\/a>, is a&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uia.org\/s\/or\/en\/1100013806\" target=\"_blank\">UNESCO Microbial Resource Centre (MIRCEN)<\/a>, and an&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wipo.int\/treaties\/en\/notifications\/budapest\/treaty_budapest_239.html\" target=\"_blank\">International Depository Authority (IDA)&nbsp;<\/a>within the Budapest Treaty (1977).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our fungal culture collection operates:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wfcc.info\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Federation for Culture Collection<\/a>&nbsp;(WFCC) guidelines for culture collections&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To the UKNCC Quality Management System&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To the Common Access to Biotechnology Resources Information (CABRI) Guidelines&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the spirit of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbd.int\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Convention on Biological Diversity<\/a> and full compliance with Nagoya Protocol<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deposit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Precious cultures can also be stored as freeze-dried and under liquid nitrogen (gold standard) at CABI. Located at CABI, this facility contains a collection of plant pathogenic fungi and bacteria, entomopathogens, and food spoilage organisms of importance to UK agriculture. The facility identifies crop pathogens, monitors their spread and discovers potential new biopesticides.
